How can I fix my Creda Simplicity tumble dryer?

Hi there,

we have had our Creda for a good few years and it has always been incredibly reliable. Recently we noticed a banging nosie when we switched it on.

On close inspection inside the barrell we could see some wire behind the back grill. Our initial thought was a bra underwire.

After an attempt to access the back of the dryer we have discovered it is actually some metal wire.

Does anyone have any idea what it is and whether if we take the whole back of the dryer off if it can be removed and thrown away. (did take a photo but can't seem to upload).
