Mend Vauxhall Astra Going

battery light on dashboard?

my 1999 Manual Vauxhall Astra nearly stalled going up a hill this morning. Since then the red battery light has been displayed on my dashboard and I have NO power steering... What has happened to my car??

it may be the fan belt has come off,this drive's the power steering & the alternator(battery light)
