vaillant turbomax plus 824e?

i have broken temperature control knob ,how do i put new one back in.is it just a push in or has it got a retainer on the end.

Depends where on the stem it's broken.
(With the electric off)
At best, remove the back cover and push the stem back through the pcb, if it drops out, great, job done, refit the new.
At worst, you have to unclip the pcb from the mountings to remove the stem.
