When you say it doesn't work Paul do you mean it is physically broken or you just can't get a picture ???
If it's just a matter of getting a picture you may find that a booster is needed, by that I mean the proper booster not the ones from the supermarket. h**p://www.gradeuk.co.uk/ is the place to look and they cost just over £20. I know this because I had the same trouble on my first m/home and buying the booster cured it. Be careful about which one you order as there are two different ones. Have a look at your aerial to see which colour writing it is, that's the only way to tell as far as I know.
If the aerial is damaged or you still just want to get rid of it it is fitted to the roof by 3 or 4 bolts going through into the living accommodation. Just undo the nuts and remove the washers and it should just pull up from the outside. Keep the nuts & bolts safe to fit the blanking plate you will need to buy to cover the hole. Good luck.
