Mend Tefal 2880 Help Hot Works

problem with tefal pressing iron 2880 help?

the soleplate does'nt get hot but the steam works fine. i have to wiggle the cord for ages in differnt directions to get the light to come on and the iron to heat up. it's not the connections as i have checked them all. could it be the termostat or solenoid?
any idea?
