thermostate?

hi can any one help, i have rover 75 reg 04 45000 miles i chnged thermostate which is the same as a freelander is this corect and has the engine got a thermostate in it as well bottom hose stays cold pipe on right side as you stand at the front, thanks for any help,yours paul.
