Help! Someone with wiring knowledge of Potterton EP6002 out there?

I have the above programmer installed on my system several years ago.Recently the heating programme has failed to turn on independently. I opened up the programmer and noticed one thin black wire was lose & disconnected!!

I would like to rule out that this is not the cause of my programmer's dysfunctional state.
