My Panasonic dmr500h Recorder Fails to record onto a DVD-R Disc ?

I try to Dubb from my thumbnail on the unit to a disc,It tell me to insert a recordable disc,Which is dvd-r,I have tried diffrent discs+cleaning them+using a lens cleaner disc,Tried to knock the unit off from the mains all failed
