My hotpoint wt741 washing m/c leaks,when filling?

My hotpoint WT741 leaks,when filling.I have checked filler hose and pump hose.These do not leak.When filling the m/c.,water seems to be rushing out near the top of the m/c at side nearest start button.I've tried to remove the top of the m/c to see if there's a loose hose top which can't be seen from bottom of m'c but when I remove screws on rackets holding top on,I meet some firmresistance so am wary about applying more pressure,in case I break something.n..b. The water leaks down 1 side of the inside only.
I'd be grateful for any help in solving this problem. Thanks
