Mend Potterton Netheat 1986 Boiler Temperature Faulty

boiler keeps on - off ?

we have potterton netheat boiler 1986 it works o.k
but i think the sencsor which control the water heat
is there a sencsor in the boiler! we have just fitted a new digtal themostar which control the room tempture
much better then the old themostats it could be the
sencsor is becoming faulty ie breaking down
