Starting problems on Escort td?

My Escort 1.8 td (1999) started taking a long time to start and then eventually stopped...I had the glow plugs changed as was told this is what the problem was, but the car is still not starting. It starts first time if easy start sprayed but just keeps turning over without and not firing up. There is also a brand new battery fitted. Any ideas anyone??
