I have a broken Ford Fiesta Meridian 1993 - electrica problem - maybel!!?

Ok.... the engine makes the spinning noise when you turn the key, my friend has changed the distributor cap, and checked that there is a spark - apparently its lovely. He has suggested that it may need a module - but the garage said there wouldn't be a spark if that needed replacing. I think the petrol is getting through - so maybe its a compression problem? I would prefer to do what I can before I take into the shop .. to save face if not money!

If it is an electrical problem, then where do I start looking for parts? Do I need to replace everything? - Heart Attack City!
