how do I reset my sky remote ?

having a sky remote 'nightmare' can anone help. Just bought a new TV for the kitchen tried to get sky on it but failed miserably. Whilst going through all the plugging in connecting and reconnecting shennigans I somehow managed to 'confuse' my sky remote which was working perfectly well on another TV before my tinkering. Now it works fine with the sky box but not at all with the TV. I've tried what it says in the instructions but step 2 ( press the sky button and red button simultaneously and the remote will blink twice - then enter your code ) bit refuses to work, the remote won't blink twice. Tried all the usual turning everything off and taking the batteries out stuff and the unusual as described above with no batteries in but all to no avail. any clues ? anyone ? before I launch it out of the window.
