Mend Ford Fiesta 1997 Work

1997 Ford Fiesta heater control valve?

How is the valve supposed to work - does it incorporate inlet & bypass vales?
How can I remove/repair it? - or can I replace it with copper pipes & valves from a plumbers shop?
