hard drive ?

Hi my elonex webbook was running slow and would not shut down so i did a restore system on it now i cant get my windows back it tells me unable to start because the registry could not be updated i rang the helpline and was told the harddrive is gone is there anything i can do to try fix it myself it is windows xp
