Homer has no idea what he's talking about. These kettles were built properly unlike today's landfill-in-waiting. Simply remove the switch panel, and look just above the socket, you'll see a screw deep within. This screw adjusts the bimetal strip. You'll have to experiment to find out which way to turn it.
