Zanussi ZWD 1480W - the lights are on, but it won't start?

I've loaded the machine, set it, and was all set to start but when I pressed the button, nothing happened. The door does lock, so it knows it needs to do something, but there's nothing, regardless of which programme. Any help would be gratefully appreciated,
