vga cable, signal not recognised?

decided to attach desktop to tv instead of monitor to save space. the tv starts to receive signal then loses it. i have tried the same thing with a laptop and exactly the same problem. was working fine when i first tried it when i moved it to the location i wanted the problem occured. any ideas. cheers
