Hotpoint Ultima WT741 door locked light does not come on but door locked? ?

I had the same fault with my WT741.
The door was locked by the interlock but the 'Door Locked' indicator light was not lit.

I checked the motor brushes, located underneath the machine by removing the bottom inspection cover where the drain hose exits the rear of the machine. They were were well worn but still had some life left in them (about 25% left) so I ordered some replacements from Amazon easily found from a quick search. The cost about £7 with free delivery.

I noticed that the commutator (the cylindrical part the brushes make contact with to drive the motor) was dirty due to wear of the brushes along with a build-up of dirt.

Due to the low positioning of the motor it will inevitably collect dust & dirt, so I just gave it a wipe with a couple of dry cotton buds to remove the bulk of the dirt & when I switched the machine back on, the problem was fixed!

The dirt build-up was obviously acting as an insulator, preventing the flow of electricity & causing the fault.

New brushes ready for when the fault recurs.

yes just had mine fixed by hotpoint the door locked ok but door light did not come on so wash cycle would not start it was the motor brushes that had worn out

No answer I'm afraid but my machine is slowly developing the same fault. It need increasingly hard closure of the door to trigger the 'locked' sensor.
