vectra c 2055 plate cd player not working?

does anyone know what to do with my cd player, please, as just purchased car and like idiot checked radio etc but did not put a cd in to try, and it appears to be blocked or something as i cant get a cd into the slot,the radio etc all work fine and no error codes come up as it just says insert a disc, but we cant get one in the slot .we got the cd remover tool from halfords but cant see anything wrong at the back (dont now what to look for anyway to be truthful) it is a 6 cd changer unit,is the unit broken or does anyone know if its repairable.only just pursuaded hubby to buy this car as old one was years old and we had cassette player in old one and would have been nice to have had a working cd player
