Mend O Ring Under Filter

Rubber O Ring, Under filter?

when I striped and cleaned the filter there was an O ring on the bottom compartment. 2" diameter, I am now putting everything back but there doesn`t seem to be a seat for it, plus the compatment is sloping if it it goes back where it came from it part blocks the drain hole? where does it belong ?.. sorry I think i`m loosing it a little here, thanks for your help
