Mend Whirlpool AWM321 Stops Certain

Whirlpool AWM321 program stops at certain points?

The on/off power button needs to be held in at certain points during the chosen program for the machine to work. The power light is the obvious sign that the machine has stopped. Have to hold in the power button for the first 3 minutes and then later on in the program. First problem encountered in 12 happy years of ownership. It deserves a 2nd chance! Many thanks.
