Mend Sony Allow Disk Loaded

Sony RDR GX3 will not power up or allow me to eject disk?

I recently loaded a copied disk borrowed from a friend into the above recorder. The machine would not read the disk or allow me to use any functions title, menu etc and so I pressed the eject button to no avail! I then pressed every button on the remote and on the machine fascia still no response. In a blind panic and obviously having no idea what was wrong or what I was doing I resorted to switching the machine off at the mains hoping that it would re-set itself - this has not worked!
I am now left with a machine that when fed electricity the red led on the power switch illuminates as expected but with no command then sitches to green as if it has been switched on and, bizarrely, immediately as the green led illuminates the machine then says in the dot matrix display power off but remains like that indefinately and never actually switches off. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem or might know what is wrong as most reputable repairers are looking for £20-£30 to quote for the repair but will deduct that from the cost of the repair if you proceed with the repair. My worry is that the repair may be uneconomic given the age of the machine, 3.5 years, and the comparitively low cost of current better specified machines.

Turn power supply off. remove case (unscrew 3 at back, 1 on each side) slide case back 5cm, looking from the centre top right, there is a small opening, look down at the side of the DVD mechanism, you will see a triangle pointing downwards to a small hole, unbend a paper clip into an 'L' shape, insert this level to the table into the small hole for about 4-6cm, this will activate the DVD tray to open, remove disk, re-screw case back, power up and have a happy day.

Hi,
My machine has EXACLTY the same problem. Please let me know if you find a solution. I have just finished speaking to Sony UK. There is no reset procedure unless you have an on-screen display. We both need some luck.

I have had the same problem.

Turn the machine on.
It will display Prower Off.
Press the Eject button.
Get you fingernails behind the front of the disk tray and pull.
Give it enough force until you can hear the disk spinning noise increase. Release, and repeat (don't over force).
After about four attempts the machine will give up and release the disk.
The machine should then work as normal.

I had the same problems and in my case the power supply was soldered bad. So i did the job and solder this board again and voila, still working for years
