sony rdr-hxd860 dvd hdd recorder problem?

I've got the same problem with my 860, as others listed on this forum. I followed the instructions in other threads to hold eject + play down to get the "S" on the display, but can't get any further. How do you clear the history ? and how do you do a DTT factory reset ? There is nothing displayed on my TV in terms of a menu to go through.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks for your suggestion, but it wouldn't do anything when pressing the stop button then the on/off button. It just continued on it's "switch on, show the welcome message, and then switch off again" cycle.
Any other suggestions on how to reset it ?

With the unit switched on press and hold the stop button and press the power button. The unit will power down and reboot. You will not loose any recordings but any settings that have been changed from the default will be rest to factory default. You timed recordings will also be cleared and will require resetting on the epg.
