how do i fix my hotpoint aquarius?

i have a hotpoint aquarius model:wma58s.... my start button broke 'wouldn't engage when pressed in' and the program button wouldn't work, ordered a new one & installed it the program button now works, but start button dosen't work,it feels like it's not touching circuit board behind it, so wondered if i was missing a part that goes between start button & control panel?
