replaced oven element in whirlpool oven?

having replaced the oven element ensuring connections are the correct way round I find when I switch on the power the oven turns on and wont switch off. Help

you cant really make a mistake with the wiring,if you do it blows a fuse,sounds like the thermostat has welded itself on,
