Mend Ford Escort Heater Fan Resistor

My heater fan is dead, 1993 Ford Escort?

Where is the variable resistor that regulates the 3 speed fan speed. I have removed two screws from the passenger side of the central consul down low to remove what I thought would be the resistor ( if that's the right word) but cannot remove, seams stuck. please help.

There is a very good chance it is a fault in the fuse box. A common problem with moisture getting in there. There maybe help on fixafordcar.co.uk
