The message is actually 'PER' but because it's on a fluorescent display, the 'R' looks more like an 'A'. 'PER' means 'Paper end - receipt' - the register thinks there is no paper in the receipt printer. If there really is paper in the receipt printer (the one on the left as you look at the register from the cashier's perspective), check the paper sensor. Open the printer cover and look on the right side. You'll see a square opening with a small, round photo-optic sensor about 1/8" ( 3mm) in diameter. Make sure the sensor is not dirty or obstructed in any way (dust, bits of paper, etc.). If everything looks in order and you still get the error (and the error won't clear by pressing the 'CLEAR' key after paper has been properly loaded into the printer), you may need to have a dealer look at the register. That sensor does occasionally go bad and may need to be replaced. They should be able to replace just the sensor and not require that the entire printer be replaced.
