Bubbling expansion tank?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a Rover 660ti but the water in the expansion tank keeps bubbling up and flowing out of the tank. The guy reckons it's because of the high pressure and the wrong cap is fitted. He said if i get the correct one it will be fine. Please can you tell me what you think?

he's lying and hiding a known serious and costly fault. walk away save your money.

arthur daley from minder is more honest than him.

ask yourself if it's as he claims the cap needs changing for the correct one then why does he say that you change it for the correct cap and it'll be ok,. why hasn't he changed it to sell a car not boiling over.
he's hoping he's found a mug to take a serious fault off his hands.
1.blown head gasket
2.thermostat
arm and a leg to repair around £300 plus for head gasket.

I wouldn't trust the seller of this car! what else may be wrong with it? Get it checked out by the AA - it's worth paying for an inspection to save buying a vehicle with possibly/probably expensive hidden problems.

This question is in the caravan category but no matter...

A simple fix to buy and fit a new cap - get him to do it for you then make your decision.

I know nothing of cars but if I was selling one I would make sure it was not boiling over on demonstration.

What do I think? - the vendor is attempting to take advantage of you. What other problems lie beneath the surface?
