I have a 1.8 escort turbo diesel van with the endura engine , its suffering from power loss and rough idling , blowing out little puffs of grey smoke and using more fuel , this is only happening sometimes then the power kicks back in and all is well again . I have changed all the filters , bled the fuel system through and checked the egr valve , any other ideas would be a great help .

you might need to check your tapetts are within spec mate, i take it you have changed the fuel filter?? has it got the lift pump on the passenger side of the block?? if so the diaphram inside is weak as hell and snaps hence why i always use a mitty vac to prime the pump instead of the black primer look out for a cheap one these as itl suck air in the system and make the van run crappy itl also evntually sieze the pump up hth
