How to fix my 1999 Ford Ka?

Thanks for that, but even after changing it, same problem. May have found out what the problem is though - looks like the previous owner made a hash of the electrics when they installed the alarm as many of the wires have been cut and soldered - looks like another trip to the auto leccy's.

No the problems are not linked, the hazzard problem will be with the switch, easy and cheap to fix yourself, remove the shroud around the steering column and remove the screw holding the switch assembly and undo the connector, go to a scrap yard or look on ebay for a replacement, or you might be luck and give it a spraying of WD40 and it might come good!
