Recent: Safely remove screen protector from a Macbook Air?

I accidently removed it from my laptop while it was still lit, and it hasn't turned on since. It flashes on and then off straight away, I didn't even get as far as trying to load music on to it. I too get the 'MTP Device' problem. Any and all advice is welcome. Thank you kindly.
