Opening front doors on Ford Galaxy 2.3 Zetec?

I operate the central locking the doors unlock, however I cant use the handles on the outside to open the doors I have to open them from the inside, the handles dont work, it started with the handles only psrtially working and having to pull hard to open the door, then eventually they stopped working altogether.
