How do I install a retractable cord on a Kenmore Canister Vacuum?

To access the cord reel, take off the motor cover (the plastic cover that contains the HEPA filter on top of the unit). There are 4 screws that have to be taken out. 2 of them are underneath the bag cover hinges, the other two are found underneath the gray cord retract button. You will have to pry the button off with a screw driver. Try to pull upward on the button when prying it off to avoid breaking the tabs that keep it in the motor cover.
