Nissan Micra boot stuck shut?

The trigger to open the boot manually on the inside of the boot which you are supposed to reach when the back seats are down is not there, it seems to be a sealed unit. I removed the whole mechanism from the boot door and it seems to be on back-to-front. The trigger to open the boot manually is facing the outside so when the boot is shut and I am unable to open the door from the outside, the switch I need to get to is facing the boot door (which is stuck shut), any ideas?
