A Horrible smell coming from machine?

There is an awful smell coming from my machine, i have drained the water from the filter at the bottom.
i also find even on a cold wash the washing is hot when it finishes, the machine has recently been disconnected and reconnected can the hot and cold pipes be round the wrong way.
