You may not have enough disk space available to run System Restore. Try running the Disk Cleanup application.

Open the My Computer folder. Right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Under the General tab, click the Disk Cleanup button.

It will start to calculate how much disk space can be recovered.
This part may take a long (long, long, long) time to complete. When it is ready it display a list of items that can be deleted along with how much space each is taking up. You can select which items you want removed and selected OK.

The first time Disk Cleanup is run, it takes forever to do the calculation, afterwards the process gets quicker depending upon the frequency in which you run the program.

Try this first, if it doesn't help try booting the computer in Safe Mode and check to see if System Restore works.

Sorry mis-read the question.

Go to your Control Panel.

Double-click the System icon.

Select the System Restore tab.

Uncheck the box next to "Turn off System Restore"

You may also want to increase the Disk usage amount (mine is set to max.)

Click OK

You can find it in the System Tools menu
Start> Programs> System Tools> System Restore

There are three options:
*Restore my computer to an earlier time
*Create a restore point
*Undo my last restoration

The restore option is selected by default. Click next.

On the next screen is a calendar. The dates in Bold signify dates with valid restore points. Click on a date.

To the right of the calendar, a listing will appear of times and events when the restore points were created (example: "4:21:59 PM Installed iTunes")

Select the restore point you want, and click next.

A warning message will appear, click next to continue.

Your machine will reboot and the restoration process will begin.
