Mistral flame effect heater turns off within 5 mins of starting. ?

Hi My istral flame effect heater 900watt glows red hot then turns off. I suspect it is because of an overheating cut off but this is happening about 5 mins after turning on. I bought it second hand but they had only used it a couple of times. Its very pretty, but useless without the heat!
