Thankyou so much. Throwing it on the floor seemed extreme but after about 8 times it worked. So much money saved!

Be careful no coins get trapped in the condenser unit as this can cause the dryer to trip the mains. The pump unit has a polystyrene float that trips the machine should the pump fill with water. If the water in this unit is dried out, it might solve the problem.

Opened back of hotpoint tcm570p. Sorry I did, As the element( I think) came apart, very very flimsy.
Any Ideas or just throw it out. Initial problem was belt broken. Now this looks a lot more serious

HI. We have Hotpoint Condenser Dryer that also tripped electric when plugged in and start button pressed. We were advised by Hotpint to pay service fee of £105.00 and engineer will call. Instead we found this fantastic site and followed some pointers left by others in similar situation. We first removed back plate with heating element and used hairdryer to dry any damp patches and slightly damp clothto wipe away any excess dust on metal plate. We also give condenser unit from front of appliance a good clean out. Also water had got into pump unit at back so made sure that was dry also. Took abit of time and being careful as to put everything bak in original position and IT WORKED !!!!!!! Yippee !!! Thanks alot HOWTOMENDIT.com and all followers. Saved us alot of cash & so near to Xmas !!!!
