Mend Philips 8080 Steam Iron Sole

How can I fix my Philips Intellicare steam iron 8080?

The iron seems to have a loose connection as the sole plate doesn't warm up but the base does. Occasionally if you fiddle about with the cable going into the iron it suddenly comes on.The small screen on the iron does not have a picture of an iron on it until the sole plate starts to warm up. Please can you help me fix this. Thank you.
