Mend John Deere S1400 Knob Plastic Remove

JD S1400 line trimmer?

JD S1400 line trimmer. Coupler knob (plastic) broke. I have a new one. How do I remove old stud/bolt from split boom coupler as I can loosen it to a certain point but then it will not loosen further? Appears old stud/bolt is machined to prevent complete removal.
