sometimes they place the thermostat for the 240v side underneath the heater, when the heater area heats up first the thermostat cuts off the element even though the rest of the room isn't warm enough. The gas side doesn't work on a thermostat so doesn't cut out. If this is the case, pull the thermostat out and position it as far away from the fire as possible.
