Mend Cannot Front Door Open

I cannot get front door open?

I am unable to get the front door open. The key turns and unlocks but the 'hook' has fullen down stopping the from opening. This is normally in operation when you activate it by lifting the handle. This has not been activated but still the hook has fullen down. anyone got any ideas.
