System fault , zone remains open?

Hi I have a NAPCO GEM P1632 Control Panel with two GEM RP1CAe2 keypads. The overhead garage door zone remains open.I have checked the field wiring and the contact device which prove to be OK. The defective zone is located on the expansion of the number one keypad.
I have jumped the defective zone at the expansion connection, thus bypassing the field wire and the contacts, and the zone remains open. This problem happened suddenly. Can I assume that keyboard is defective? If that is true, Can I just replace the keypad to resolve the problem? Is programming required?? In the meantime I am just bypassing that zone. (That leaves the door unmonitored)
