Sears 1681590 dishwasher?

I have a Sears Kenmore 1681590 Dishwasher.
When taking the bottom rack out, I noticed a hole in the left side wall of the interior. I've never noticed it before, because the rack is not taken out and it's hidden.

What is the hole for?
