How do I fix my Hotpoint WD71N with display screen & prog button problems?

My Hotpoint WD71N Ultima 1200 has lost some part of its display screen. Sometimes on power on the display shows jumbled letters. Also, some of the programme and feature buttons have stopped working (no beep) or work intermittently. Apart from that its a good machine.
Any clues?
