When I press F7 to recover it takes you to a recovery screen. this happened once before and the hard disc was formated and it cost big money to reinstall the OS by a techie.we do not have an OS disc can I re install the XP (service pack 3) system from my other laptop using a bootable disc in a usb external drive and the licence key from the notino?
The notino was is using XP too
Ive just fixed one of these, i pulled out the hard drive pluged it into my PC and reinstalled windows. I think (in my case) the entire hard drive had been wiped the user said theyve had this problem before?

why are you pushing the f7 (starting the recovery) if you dont want the recovery system to startup?
If the machine is not booting when you DONT press the f7 what happens when run the recovery?
If the recovery starts up you should beable to format and reinstall from that console!
