when i start my car up the rev counter jumps up to 2000 revs, then when the car warms up it drops to just below 1000 revs. But if ive been driving for a little while and then come to a stop the rev counter sticks on 2000 revs for about 10seconds then drops to below 1000 again. It also loses power when ive got the peddal to the floor, but if i take my foot off alittle it regains the power . . . does it have something todo with the fule sensor? because that would explain alot if theres to much fule going in when i put my foot down it could be flooding the engine? or am i totally wrong?
Tihs happened to my 1.4l LX escort. The lambda sensor in the exhaust downpipe was faulty on mine. You are correct in thinking that you are flooding the engine at full throttle.
Other problems to consider are Throttle Position Sendor and Idle control valve - im not sure how the GTi controls idle but i guess it is a similar principle to the CVH.
