Mend Vaillant ecomax 824e Combi Boiler Tap

hiya we have a vaillant ecomax 824e combi boiler. when you put the tap on there is a first a long delay before the burner comes on roughly 5 seconds and then boiler will run for maybe several seconds and then cut out which then displays a fault code e12 does anyone have any ideas
