operating system not found [hp-xp]?

to install XP ...u have to have an OS on ur system to begin with u can do a cold boot but most computers now are embedded OS's but u can run a fooundation of win98 and the XP over the top of it as an up-grade this work's well and if u know what u are doing u can format from file 32 system to NTFS with out much problem

Assuming a version of Windows (you don't say) use the recovery Diskette or CD to start the machine and then you can take a look at the hard disk and report back. It could be anything at the moment.
